According to WHO ,Infertility is “a disease of the reproductive system defined by the failure to achieve a clinical pregnancy after 12 months or more of regular unprotected sexual intercourse.”
As Ayurved doctor numbers of patients come for consultation at our Matru Garbhsanskar opd,keeping a faith that they get a good results and one day they will become parents,after going through their history , Ayurveda sutra from sushrut samhita sharirasthan 2/33 comes to mind and always guide me in ruling out the cause for infertility and when the cause is ruled out the treatment becomes successful .
The sutra which i remember is as follows
ध्रुवम चातुर्णा सान्निध्यात गर्भ : स्याद विधिपूर्वक I ऋतू क्षेत्र अंबु बीजांनां सामुग्र्याद अंकुरो यथा II
According to Acharya Sushrut if
Ritu - season or period near ovulation,
Bija-that is the seed or good quality of ovum and sperm,
Kshetra-it is the field or the female reproductive organ or garbhashay
Ambu- that is water or nourishing substance .
when all of these above criteria are of good quality then the conception or germination or ankur utpatti is going to definitely occur.
Acharya Charak states that when both male and female after following strict diet,follow the vaidyas guideline and perform the act the good quality sperm reaches the female reproductive organ i.e garbhashay and get together with healthy ovum then conception is definite for this he has given an example as white cloth soaked in a dye takes color of dye or milk when mixed with curdling yeast loses its original character and forms curd in the same manner sperm and ovum changes to form garbh or foetus.
Acharya Vagbhata has given importance to above but also says that psychological status of couple is also essential.
In summarizing above description we can say that for achievement of pregnancy one need to have good quality of ovum and sperms,the reproductive organ should be healthy and functioning,and their should be normal psychology.
