(स्तन्यक्षय)
चत्वार:सागरास्तुभ्यं स्तन्यो : क्षिरवाहीन: I भवन्तु सुभगे नित्यं बालस्य बलवृद्धेये II
पयो S मृतरसं पीत्वा कुमारस्ते शुभानने I दीर्घमायूरवाप्नोतु देवा : प्राश्यामृतं यथा II

Before getting to know the causes of deficient milk secretion i would like to explain the meaning above verse said in Sushrut samhita
""O fortunate pretty woman ! All the four sea should produce constant flow of milk from your breast for increase in strength of the child .O beautiful woman! As the deities obtained longevity by consuming nectar,similarly the child should also get longevity by consuming your milk which is similar to nectar"
The importance of breast milk is given by comparing it to Amritpaan done by gods. ,
moving to our main topic the causes of stanyakshay is as follows .
क्रोध शोकवात्सल्यादिभीश्च स्त्रिया : स्तन्यनाशो भवती II सु .सं.शा.१०/२५
रुक्षान्नपण कर्शण क्रोधशोककामादिभि : स्तन्यनाश:II अ .सं.उ .१/२४
शुकक्रोधलंघना SS यासा: स्तन्यनाशस्य हेतवा :II अ .ह्र.उ .१/१७
शोधांनाद्वा स्वभावाद्वा यस्यां :क्षीरं विशुष्यति तस्य : क्षीर प्रजनन प्रयतेत विचक्षण: II का .सं . सु .११/१८
The cause are
Anger
Grief
Absence of affection for the child
Fear
Fasting
Excessive exercise
Consumption of dry edibles
Emanciation
Excessive use of shodhan karma
Repregnancy
This cause cessation of milk.
Characteristic of normal breast milk
According to Sushrutacharya pure milk is cold in touch ,it is clean ,its color is like color of conch-shell or whitish yellow .This milk is sweet in taste ,when we add water to this milk it mix up evenly, it neither produce froth nor streaks,it does not float on surface or settles down at bottom.This type of milk provides good health ,growth and development of body and give strength to child.
